If you look to the south or east of Carolyn's Pumpkin Patch, you can see a few of the corn fields that are planted and harvested by Raasch Farms.

Interesting Trivia: Q. Why is it called dent corn? A. It’s called “dent corn” because of the dent that forms on the kernel as the corn dries.

Q. What is attached to each and every sweet corn kernel? A. A piece of silk

Q. What are silks? A. Each string of silk is actually a tiny tube that allows pollen to travel from the tassel all the way down into the unfertilized ear of corn. This pollination process is how kernels form.

We have been growing pumpkins for over 40 years! Our first pumpkins were sold at farmer's markets and fall festivals and eventually the Pumpkin Patch was opened.

Pumpkins are a part of the Cucurbit family. They need a warm bed and shouldn't be planted when the weather is too cold. They also need lots of sunshine, water and pollinators (bees, moths, flies and more).

We grow 10-15 different varieties at the Patch. Each different type of pumpkin seed has been bred with different properties and traits.
